The Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to reintroduce expandable storage and a new leak may confirm the feature will make it onto the 2016 flagship. A video and images surfaced, featuring a device, which tech blog Android Authority claims is the Galaxy S7. The handset features a card tray, which includes a space for a SIM card and one for a microSD card. The design is similar to many handsets that feature a unibody design and expandable storage.

Samsung is already familiar with the card tray design ever since releasing the Galaxy S6 with a unibody design in 2015. Devices before the Galaxy S6 featured a removable back panel, which allowed users direct access to the innards of the device. Users easily could insert a microSD card or could remove or replace the battery cell.

Samsung has since transitioned from the polycarbonate plastic design, which allowed for a removable back to a glass and metal design for its devices. Such a design brought a more premium look to the Galaxy S line, but the change wasn’t without its hiccups. Samsung introduced on the Galaxy S6, a new type of internal storage called UFS 2.0 . This type of storage is faster and more sophisticated than the more standard eMMC storage many smartphone manufacturers usually use when implementing microSD cards in their devices. But Samsung has now reportedly figured out how to make UFS 2.0 work well with expandable storage.

The manufacturer has likely also gotten some software support from Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is supposed to the Galaxy S7 OS. Android 6.0 includes upgraded support for expandable storage, including a feature called Adaptive storage , which lets users to configure a microSD card to their handset, allowing the device to read external storage as if it were the same as internal storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be unveiled next Monday in Barcelona. Recent leaks suggest the smartphone will be water resistant, which is another feature Samsung would be reintroducing. The device may also have camera upgrades for better low light photos, a larger battery and a USB 2.0 port instead of an upgrade to USB Type-C
