A new Story Demo for Scarlet Nexus is now available free to all players. This allows players to experience the opening parts of the game. New players, meanwhile, can enjoy up to Phase 2 of the game. Those who play the demo can transfer their progress upon full purchase of the game.
However, players are reminded that some of the elements in Story Demo are restricted and differ slightly from the full retail version. Those able to finish the Story Demo can enjoy different main game bonuses, such as:
- Two Attachments
- Bunny Ear Mask (Head) [White]
- OSF Standard Issue Pack [Black]
- Two Plug-ins
- Forcefield: Mk II
- Power Enhance: Mk II
The plug-in attachments mentioned are available in the full version as players progress through the game. Those who already have these items in the Demo Edition no longer get these bonuses when they complete the Story Demo.
Special Interviews
Part of launching this new Story Demo were special interviews, released last week. The first was on Scenario Writer Takumi Miyajima, who revealed that his inspiration for the "connecting brains" and "creating weapons with human brains" was his interest in "brains" as a child. He added that he still remembers one book expressing the brain as a computer, and it left a strong impression on him.
Then there were the creator comments from “Other” Designer Masakazu Yamashiro. In the game, the Others are cruel brain-craving monsters which are impossible for humans to communicate with or even tell what they are thinking. According to Yamashiro, he designed them to have that missing appearance of any high-level emotions and thoughts. Since having the creatures attack mindlessly would be dull, Yamashiro added some absurdity and unique habits to each one as a counterpoint to their rather frightening nature.
Scarlet Nexus was released in June 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S. The game puts players in the role of either Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall. They are members of the group known as the Other Suppression Force (OSF) and are tasked to defend New Himuka against creatures known as the Others. Besides having short-range weapons, the two also have the ability of psychokinesis, which allows them to throw objects and debris at hostile enemies.
