When the Switch was first unveiled a couple of years ago, there were several titles that were considered its biggest selling points – besides the system’s rather unique aspects, that is. Breath of the Wild was first and foremost at the front, with Super Mario Odyssey not far behind, as these two first-party video game giants would be debuting on one of the most anticipated consoles in recent memory. There is, however, another title that was announced that warranted enough attention for the console despite it being relatively not as well known as Link or Mario.
After several years of silence, Atlus has finally reaffirmed Shin Megami Tensei V for the Nintendo Switch, giving the game a brand-new trailer that showcases more of what we can expect to see from one of the best JRPG series, as well as proper release window. Check out Shin Megami Tensei V’s trailer below.
As expected from a Shin Megami Tensei title, the first words uttered are ominous, reminding everyone of the series’ mature tone and serious atmosphere. A voiceover from Lucifer, one of the central figures in the series, talks about the death of a God, with Order itself crumbling and Chaos reigning all over. Following the themes of previous games in the series, it would seem that Shin Megami Tensei V will also tackle the world’s rebirth following a period of chaos, in which the protagonist himself will be instrumental for the direction it will be heading. With several paths to choose from, Shin Megami Tensei V is shaping up to be a fine return to form for the series’ biggest fans, allowing them to choose between law, chaos and neutral paths that will decide the face of the reborn world.
Aside from the extreme hype generated by the announcement trailer for Shin Megami Tensei V, the latest Nintendo Direct Mini also announced an HD Remaster for the series’ first foray into Western territories, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. While Shin Megami Tensei V is expected to be an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster will be released for the PlayStation 4 as well, harkening back to the game’s original release for the PlayStation 2.
Shin Megami Tensei V will be released simultaneously worldwide for the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
