Following its initial reveal on PC exclusively via the Epic Games Store, developer Moving Pieces Interactive has also confirmed Xbox Series and Xbox One versions of Shoulders of Giants launching concurrently with the PC release sometime this fall. Shoulders of Giants is a roguelike action adventure title, the second outing for the Brooklyn-based Moving Pieces Interactive. To celebrate the upcoming Xbox release, it unveiled a new game trailer which you can check out below.
Shoulders of Giants features frogs on top of robots, allowing for single-player runs, cooperative two-player journeys, or chaotic four-person parties. As a roguelike, you play as one of several teams of sharpshooting frogs atop powerful mechs, with gameplay highly reminiscent of Risk of Rain 2.
Shoulders of Giants' two-player co-op mode sees two players control one mech team; one player controls the robot while the other controls the frog. This makes for a quite unique gameplay experience, even for an action game. That said, it’s weird that the studio shifted things around for four-player co-op, as in this mode, players will have to control four teams instead of two. It will be interesting to see if Shoulders of Giants will be fleshed out in the future to even allow an eight-player co-op, with four teams of two working together to survive for as long as they can.
As a roguelike, Shoulders of Giants lets players experience quick bursts of gameplay, with the length dependent on how your runs go. Like Risk of Rain 2, you can cruise through levels until you finally face your match or go beyond and out of this plane of existence by becoming overpowered, decimating everything in your path. That is, until something one-shot you before you even realize it.
Shoulders of Giants will feature a number of different planets, with the mech-propelled amphibians bringing light and color with every restored world. The game will also feature a number of run-altering loot, from grappling hooks to glowing grenades and everything in between.
Shoulders of Giants is now available to wishlist on PC via the Epic Games Store.
