Developers Yacht Club Games and Nitrome announced a September 23 release date for Shovel Knight Dig, a new entry to the Shovel Knight series. Shovel Knight Dig is launching on Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and the Apple Arcade service for $24.99. As for other platforms, Yacht Club Games confirmed versions for PlayStation and Xbox, although these will be announced and released separately from current versions at a later date. To celebrate the official announcement, the developers unveiled a new trailer for Shovel Knight Dig, which you can check out below.
The trailer features a live-action segment featuring Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson and Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil, two members of the famed YouTube channel Game Grumps. Some gameplay footage was also shown, revealing Shovel Knight on his latest adventure as he literally digs deeper and deeper to stop the machinations of his latest enemy, the Drill Knight, once and for all.
Shovel Knight Dig is the latest game in the Shovel Knight series, completed after four years of development. In this latest adventure, Shovel Knight goes up against the Drill Knight and his crew. During one peaceful day, the rogues snatch Shovel Knight’s loot, so he must undertake a new tunneling adventure to recover his riches.
In his quest, Shovel Knight will meet new friends and foes, visit strange new lands, and outfit himself in a quest to stop the ground from collapsing underfoot. Drill Knight’s dastardly group, the Hexcavators, is made up of some named Knights as well; there’s Tinker Knight, the crew’s engineer, and Mole Knight, the group’s burrowing specialist. Armed with nothing more than his trusty Shovel Blade, Shovel Knight must prove himself the best digger of all in this all-new adventure.
Shovel Knight Dig will be part of the Apple Arcade subscription service at launch, while PC players can get it on Steam with a special 10% launch discount. A free digital soundtrack will also be provided on the platform during the game’s initial release period. At the time of writing, Shovel Knight Dig is still not up for wishlisting on Steam, so stay tuned if you’re planning on getting it on the platform.
