Snapchat dropped its latest March 2016 update Tuesday and as usual, there was one major unannounced change that everyone instantly noticed: an different font.
What Is Snapchat's New Font Called?
Yep, after a couple of years of Helvetica the latest Snapchat update changes the default font on the app to Avenir. While the font is a personal favorite of mine, apparently I’m alone in my love for it. Upon seeing the changed font, avid Snapchat users swiftly took to Twitter to register their disdain.
Can You Change The Font On Snapchat Back To The Old One?
If you are one of the many who despise the new Snapchat font, you may be wondering if there is a way to get rid of it or replace it with the old one. The answer is, maybe. On some Android devices, users do have the option to change the default font for an entire app. Or, if that option isn’t available, you may be able to use a custom launcher to change the Snapchat font.
If you’re using an iPhone though, the process is not so simple. When available, you can jailbreak your device and then modify the font, but currently, there are no jailbreaks that support the latest versions of iOS 9. The last jailbreak released was for iOS 9.0.2 and most people who keep their iPhones updated probably aren’t running that firmware. If you do happen to be on iOS 9.0.2 or below you can jailbreak using the Pangu tool and then download BytaFont from the Cydia tweak store to change the font. That’s a lot of effort, though, just to change the font on Snapchat. For now, I’d say it’s best to just try to get used to it.
What Else Does The March 2016 Snapchat Update Do?
It's difficult to believe this latest update does nothing more than change the font and fix a few bugs, but so far no one has been able to find any newly added features, emoji or functions in the update. We scoured through the app ourselves, and though the Mac and Cheese lens and International Women’s Day filter are new, those were added to the app before Tuesday’s update. Some have speculated that the Mac and Cheese lens might actually become a playable game, but so far it doesn’t seem to be anything more than a Kraft sponsored lens. We reached out to Snapchat to see if a playable game selfie lens was anywhere on the horizon but the company has yet to respond. If we do find the new Snapchat update actually does something worth checking out, we’ll be sure to update this post.
