New details on Sniper Elite 4 continue to trickle out of Rebellion, via the European games press, giving fans some idea of how the studio plans to improve the Sniper Elite franchise with its fourth entry.

New Sniper Elite 4 footage hit YouTube on Monday, following a European preview event, and the new videos leave little doubt that Rebellion has big plans for its next shooter. The studios says the map featured in the videos is the one of the smallest players will see in Sniper Elite 4, but the environment is still three times bigger than the biggest stage from SE3. Longtime Sniper Elite fans can also look forward to the introduction of two new kill cams, Melee and Shrapnel, in the upcoming sequel.

The Shrapnel kill cam looks to be one of the most violent additions we’ve seen to a video game in many years, giving players a slow-motion, x-ray enhanced look at the devastating effect an explosion has on the bodies of one’s enemies. In this week’s videos, we see soldiers suffering horrific injuries from bits of metal and wood; we can only assume things will get much worse for the Axis forces when the full version of Sniper Elite 4 emerges later this year. As you’d expect, the Melee kill cam will provide an enhanced look at the effects of non-projectile/explosive attacks; however, the effect is much more subdued than the Shrapnel and classic kill cams.

To see the latest Sniper Elite 4 footage from Rebellion, take a few minutes to pop over to Eurogamer or Videogamer. Alternately, if you’d rather not have any portion of the main game spoiled for you, check out the Sniper Elite 4 trailer released last week.

Sniper Elite 4 is being developed for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts sometime in 2016.
