Horror survival game "Sons of the Forest" features a ton of challenging and horrifying enemies that players can encounter throughout their journey of trying to survive one more day.
Taking on these terrifying enemies is made easier by the variety of weapons that you have at your disposal, including melee weapons and ranged alternatives. Newcomers can find it difficult to know which ones are actually worth using that will help them stay alive for longer.

1. Firefighter's Axe
First up on the list is the Firefighter's Axe, which is a very common weapon in many survival games due to its reliability. "Sons of the Forest" also takes advantage of this and gives the weapon high damage potential and high blocking capabilities, according to CBR.
You can get the Firefighter's Axe by first having a shovel and going to the riverbend on the northwestern part of the map. The area you are looking for is just south of the river that runs from the beach.
The shovel is needed to dig up the circular area of dirt that surrounds the surveying equipment where you will find a bunker. Go down, walk to the end of the hallway, and you will see the weapon inside a glass case on the wall.
2. Pistol
A useful ranged weapon in "Sons of the Forest" is the Pistol, which has several attachment options to make it better. It may not deal the most damage, but a headshot will be enough to take down most enemies.
You can get this weapon by looking for an inflatable raft off the western coast of the map that is marked on your GPS Locator by a purple symbol. The main thing to note here is that the waters are infested with sharks that will attack you, so be careful.
3. Katana
Another powerful melee weapon in the game is the Katana, which you can use to take out lesser enemies without much trouble. This particular blade is good at severing limbs, which will slow down enemies significantly, Game Rant said.
The Katana can be found on the second floor of a bunker on the southeastern side of the map. You will have to get the Maintenance Keycard to get through a locked door, head down the stairs, and through the door on the left for a cutscene.
You can then go to the second floor and into the second room on the right side, where you will find the weapon.
4. Shotgun
The Shotgun is arguably one of the best close-range guns you can find in "Sons of the Forest" as it has very high damage potential. You can also upgrade this weapon with the Buckshot to increase its overall damage.
Players can get this weapon by heading to the grave that is marked by a purple symbol on your GPS Locator in the northwestern part of the map. You need a shovel to dig under the wooden cross to find this powerful gun.
5. Rifle
The Rifle is arguably one of the best weapons to use in "Sons of the Forest" due to its amazing damage per shot. The main downside to this is that it has a very slow rate of fire and low ammo capacity.
Despite these factors, the Rifle is still one of the best weapons that you can use to take down enemies you encounter. You find this weapon inside the same cave as the Golden Armor, and you will need the Rebreather, according to Eurogamer.
The area you are looking for is in a cave on the southwestern area of the map, which is under the snowy mountains and in a large lake. The right cave is signified by two corpses dressed in white at the entrance.
You need to go into the pool of water in the middle and swim your way down pass several skeletons to get to the other side. Continue until you get to an area that has some golden canoes.
Walk between the canoes until you get to another underwater section. You then have to turn right after you see a golden structure under the water.
