Developer ATLUS just dropped a new trailer for the upcoming Soul Hackers 2, and this new one focuses on the two main aspects of the gameplay: Devil Summoning and combat. This comes after two previous trailers, one focused on the game’s story, and the other on the characters facing off against this potential world-ending threat. Check out the new trailer for Soul Hackers 2 below.
As with other Shin Megami Tensei titles, Soul Hackers 2 utilizes turn-based combat with other Devil Summoners as your party characters. However, instead of having the contracted demons fight by your side, they are utilized by your party members. This makes it so that you will rarely see your contracted demons on the battlefield outside of their attacks and skills.
That said, most of the other aspects of the combat are bog-standard on par with other Shin Megami Tensei games. The main draw is to exploit enemy weaknesses to gain specific advantages. In Soul Hackers 2, this comes in the form of the Sabbath, a brutal all-out attack that happens at every end of turn for Ringo’s party. The Sabbath grows powerful with every exploited enemy weakness during your party’s turn, making it a very powerful move that can easily one-turn end an encounter if you’re well prepared for it.
Throughout the game, Ringo will also gain access to more powers of Aion that she can use in battle, with the catalyst for these upgrades depending on her connection with the other Devil Summoners. Certain Commander skills will be unlocked over time, with these activating passively during specific combat triggers. A prominent one seen in the trailer revives all three Devil Summoners when they fall in combat.
Demon levels will instinctually grow with every bit of combat experience, and with these new levels come new abilities. Once certain Demons reach their full potential, they may even share a Mystique with Ringo. These Mystiques are upgrades that boost various stats for Ringo and her Devil Summoner teammates.
Soul Hackers 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store on August 26.
