After rumors swirled regarding the upcoming Sony and Marvel Studios Spider-Man movie reboot and its title, Sony came right out and confirmed Spider-Man: Homecoming is the official name of the 2017 film at this year’s CinemaCon.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May is slated for a July 7, 2017 release. The name is fitting as the upcoming Spidey flick will follow Peter Parker in high school.
The Homecoming name is also a nice little nod to Spider-Man coming over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (where many fans believe he belongs) after his appearance in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.
Details surrounding Spider-Man: Homecoming are thin. There are rumors that the Vulture will be Spidey’s first villain in the movie, marking the first time the villain is shown on-screen.
However, there are confirmed reports that other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming to make sure fans don’t forget that Peter Parker is engrained in the MCU and that his inclusion in Civil War is not a one-off.
