Last month we heard that the board game manufacturer CMON is collaborating with Spin Master Games to launch a Kickstarter campaign for an all-new game called Marvel United. Back then, we did not get any extra details as to what this game might turn out to be except a short trailer on CMON's official Twitter page. The trailer showcased some remarkably cute prototype pieces of Marvel heroes like Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Captain America, and Black Widow, as well as some villains like Ultron, The Taskmaster, and The Red Skull.
However, now we have additional details on what CMON and Spin Master Games have been planning. Marvel United is a fast-paced, cooperative game for two to four players. The game requires you to set up the mission board and select one of the three included villains (Red Skull, Taskmaster and Ultron) for the battle. Players then choose a hero out of the five included options (Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and Black Widow). Marvel United requires players to strategize with other heroes to overcome the villains' master plan. Solving the mission grants victory to all the heroes, and if the villain succeeds in unleashing his masterplan, everybody loses. The game is said to provide 40-60 minutes of gameplay and is for ages 14 and above.
The Kickstarter for Marvel United went live at 3:00 p.m. EST today. Backers pledging $60 or more for the game will receive the ULTIMATE fan edition if the project is funded, including the Marvel United core box and all applicable stretch goal rewards that will be unlocked throughout the campaign. Seeing as how CMON holds the title of "Kickstarter's #1 funded company," and with Marvel attached, it's probably safe to say this one will reach its funding goals without any problems.
“We are excited to unveil the first-ever Marvel game on Kickstarter, delivering a truly unique and original game to fans,” Elizabeth LoVecchio, VP of Spin Master Games, said in a press statement. “Spin Master takes pride in great partnerships and working with CMON exemplifies this value. Launching Marvel United on Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to bring the ultimate version of this game to superfans with exclusive expansions and characters that can be mix and matched in the game.”
Backers can also receive Kickstarter-exclusives that cannot be found once Marvel United jumps to store shelves. Pledging an addition $30 also gives you the Kickstarter-exclusive expansion for the game - The Infinity Gauntlet. Those who back the Kickstarter campaign are asked to check back frequently for more exciting reveals, many of which will be given for free for those who pledge for the campaign.
Marvel United has been secretly in development for two years. It is an ultimate collector's item for Marvel superfans. The game features original "chibi-style" artwork and CMON-detailed miniatures of favorite heroes and villains. As of now, the Kickstarter versions of Marvel United should ship this Fall, which is right around the time United is scheduled to be sold in stores.
