Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Purple Lamp Studios have officially unveiled a new trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, a second entry to THQ Nordic’s offerings for the SpongeBob SquarePants series that started with the remake, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The game is due out at a still unannounced date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, with new-gen versions, curiously omitted. Check out the latest trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake below.
The trailer for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake shows off some of the many worlds that SpongeBob will visit in his latest adventure, this time with the direct help of his best friend Patrick Star. After being granted Mermaid’s Tears by a mysterious fortune teller, SpongeBob and Patrick unleash chaos upon Bikini Bottom, stranding several of the town’s inhabitants and their locations in various Wishworlds filled with different sights and dangers. To make matters worse, Patrick transforms into a balloon, and SpongeBob needs to find a way to bring him back alongside all the Bikini Bottomites stranded in different cosmic worlds.
To achieve this, SpongeBob will need to use his many alter personas inspired by various appearances in the original SpongeBob SquarePants series. These include SpongeGar, the prehistoric caveman version, KarateBob, based on SpongeBob’s love for the contact sport, the horrific-looking SnailBob, and many more. In total, there are 30 different costumes to discover, each with its own backstories and relevance to the greater SpongeBob SquarePants universe.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is envisioned as a spiritual successor of sorts to SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, which received both critical and commercial acclaim. However, this time around, the game is only playable through the eyes of SpongeBob, with variety coming from his many alter-egos and costumes. Balloon-Patrick is also there to lend his helping hand as SpongeBob travels through seven distinct Wishworlds meeting many friends, allies, and enemies along the way.
As music has always been a part of the series’ DNA, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake will feature 101 songs from the franchise, including fan-favorite Sweet Victory. All characters are also voiced by their proper TV series counterparts, making it a seemingly pseudo-episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.
