Techland’s latest title has found a home on the E3 2019 stage, and it comes from what I consider to be a most unlikely candidate.
As we’re all very much aware, Techland’s Dying Light 2 will be shown off at E3 this year. Details for the title are very scarce at this time, so it’s a very welcome surprise that the game is going to be feature on gaming’s biggest stage. That said, it was still unknown in what capacity the game will be shown, and whether or not there would a big in-depth feature on it.
Well, as it turns out, it’s looking a lot like there is going to be an in-depth reveal. Just yesterday, Square Enix has announced that the publisher is going to reveal Dying Light 2 on the E3 stage this year, followed by launch distribution of the title in the Americas. Check out the tweet below.
I do find it weird that Square Enix, of all publishers, managed to pick Dying Light 2 up. Previously, Dying Light was published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for consoles and self-published on PC. The title debuted in 2013 stage at Microsoft’s own E3 stage.
That said, it’s great that Techland managed to snag such a big and well-known publisher. The first Dying Light was severely underrated, and I’m hoping that the sequel manages to recapture some of the magic that the original had.
With this acquisition, Square Enix’s E3 stage is looking to be amazing, too. The biggest draw, of course, is the Final Fantasy VII Remake; although it’s still not officially confirmed by Square Enix, the latest trailer did say that we will see more in June, and it makes little sense if it’s not at E3 this year. The publisher will also finally debut the much-anticipated Marvel’s Avengers game that Crystal Dynamics has been working on. Add Dying Light 2 to the mix and you have very exciting titles that could give Square Enix an edge over the other presenters.
Square Enix’s E3 presentation will be held on June 10, at 9:00 p.m. EDT. You can watch it live at the Square Enix main website here.
