New DLC for Star Wars Battlefront released today as part of the February Update. Included in the DLC is a big map called Twilight on Hoth and a new Survival mission.
First up, the new map. The Twilight on Hoth map is a big one, so that means it will work with Supremacy, Walker Assault, Fighter Squadron, Turning Point, Blast, Drop Zone and Heroes vs Villains. When playing on foot, Twilight on Hoth has some beautiful sights to see.
All throughout the map is a large series of ice caves, which are awesome to explore. At one point in a Walker Assault match, I found myself alone in a large tunnel and I wanted to just explore instead of wage intergalactic war.
Despite being a large map, the tunnels and other little valleys make Twilight on Hoth feel like a tight gameplay experience. This is a good thing, because it allows players of all styles to find areas on the map that best fit their strengths.
There are plenty of other small touches that add to Twilight on Hoth’s beauty as well. Snow falling down the entire match looks really great, even if it obscures the battlefield a bit. Probably the coolest little touch I found are the massive footprints left behind by the AT-AT that are so deep you'll have to jump out of if you get behind the machine.
Twilight on Hoth becomes even more impressive when playing in a ship. The snow whipping around may be distracting, but it makes you feel like you’re flying at light speed across the map. Anyone who has driven a car during a blizzard knows what I mean.
The new Survival mission also takes place in the ice caves of Hoth. This mission plays out just like the others, with waves of increasingly difficult enemies trying to gun you down. The Ice Caves map, while different from the large map, is also stunning to witness. Thankfully the Survival mission can be taken at a much slower pace, so it was easier to walk around and enjoy the beauty of the environment.
Unfortunately, this DLC didn’t bring any new changes to gameplay. While the maps look great, you’ll be playing the same game modes on them as you’ve been playing already. Considering the price of $0.00, that’s not too shabby.
So what do you think? Are you excited to play through the new maps and mission in Star Wars Battlefront? Would you like to see more changes coming, or more frequent updates? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
