Star Wars fan site Making Star Wars uploaded video leaked from the set of Star Wars: Episode 8.
The video was taken in Northern Ireland, amongst island chains similar to the Skellig Michael location first seen at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The twelfth-century monastery island and similar environs will become the planet of Ahch-To in Star Wars: Episode 8, where the first Jedi Temple was built and later rediscovered by Luke Skywalker after the Knights of Ren killed his padawans, ending his first attempt at restoring the Jedi Order.
Since the set leak video was taken from a great distance, it’s a little hard to tell what’s going on, but there definitely appears to be a large alien suit. This has some plot implications for Episode 8 , as it suggests far more of the movie will take place on Ahch-To than previously suspected.
Filming in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik (and the subsequent set leaks) had suggested that a great deal of Star Wars: Episode 8 ’s action would take us to more of the galaxy’s urban and civilized environments. However, the additional filming in Northern Ireland and at least one alien encounter on Ahch-To suggests there will be plenty for Rey and Luke to do in and around the site of the first Jedi Temple. Don’t expect Rey to hand over Luke’s lightsaber, then immediately usher the Jedi Master aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Little beyond rumors is yet known about the plot of Star Wars: Episode 8, but we should hear more about the 2017 Star Wars release after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes off this December.
