After tweeting, then deleting, “Watch Monday Night Football on Monday October 9th - for no reason in particular,” Mark Hamill insisted it had nothing to do with a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer. But, like, c’mon. Come. On. Of course it does.
And now it looks mostly confirmed. Not only can we expect a new Last Jedi trailer, but according to convincing but since-deleted sources posting to Reddit, we’ll also be able to buy tickets. So skip the football, hold off watching that trailer, double and triple-check the “IMAX or LIEMAX” map and get ready to refresh Fandango over and over if you want opening day tickets on a respectable screen.
A screengrab of an internal AMC graphic preparing employees for the ticket launch can be inspected at Star Wars News Net (we’re not going to risk the copyright takedown notice). In part, it reads, “10/9 — Advance Ticket Launch.”
Monday Night Football is between two teams, the “Bears” and the “Vikings,” and begins at 8:30 p.m. Expect The Last Jedi trailer somewhere around halftime. Thanks to the complexity of coordinating between all these companies, it’s possible tickets will be available slightly before or after the trailer debuts, but you’ll probably safe if you start the hunt just before 9:00 p.m.
Having gone through this process with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it will take a little planning to ensure you get the tickets you want, particularly if you’re in a big city. Fandango crashed, slogged, slugged and pooped out on the last ticket sales date and it’s almost certain to happen again. Here’s some best practices that scored me 8 tickets to the only good IMAX theater in Manhattan for The Force Awakens’ opening night:
- Coordinate with friends over speakerphone.
- Bookmark the exact theater page for both Fandango and MovieTickets.
- Keep refreshing, don’t give up.
Yeah, it’s not exactly a miracle solution, but it’s just going to take patience and a quick mouse hand to do this right.
And it’s worth it. With J.J. Abrams back on Star Wars: Episode IX and Ron Howard bringing his generic touch to the Han Solo Star Wars Story, The Last Jedi is looking more and more like the major Star Wars event for the foreseeable future.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out in theaters Dec. 15, but as ever, there will be screenings the night before, on Dec. 14. Fight for them.
