After years of waiting, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens has finally arrived. The film has proved to be a critical and commercial success, and has many moviegoers already excited for the next chapter to come. But before we see the next installment of the Skywalker saga (Episode 8), we’ll take a step back in time for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Rogue One will be the next Star Wars movie to arrive and it promises to offer an experience unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Disney has dubbed it the first of the “anthology” films, aka spin-offs, which will showcase entirely new characters in a unique style of storytelling. Recently Fandango completed a survey in which Rogue One was labeled the most anticipated movie of 2016, which means the first trailer is sure to break the Internet. Lo and behold, it looks like we learned the prospective release date of said trailer, which is neatly being packaged with another massive Disney franchise - Marvel.
According to a report from Star Wars Time, the trailer for Rogue One will launch with the release of Captain America: Civil War. Though there isn’t much information in terms of details or sources, the timing of the release makes a great deal of sense. Considering both Lucasfilm and Marvel are both owned by Disney, and Captain America: Civil War promises to be one of the biggest movies of the year, we have to say we’re pretty convinced as well.
This isn’t the first time Disney has used its other properties to market Star Wars material. Disney used both Marvel and ESPN to market The Force Awakens in the past, so the move should come as no surprise. Plus the release date of Civil War (May 6) is perfect timing for beginning Rogue One’s marketing campaign.
Let’s hope the reports are true - both Civil War and Rogue One are shaping up to be two of the most popular movies of the year.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters on Dec. 16.
