Valve made a massive promise that its proprietary SteamOS will be shared with other handheld gaming platforms, and now, a demonstration of how the operating system will run on the ASUS ROG Ally has finally arrived.
The first noticeable thing in this operating system port is its performance, offering a newfound power for portable gaming consoles.
However, the main issue now is how it will level the playing field for Valve's Steam Deck, the original platform of the SteamOS, as it will soon face its competitors on the same operating system.
SteamOS on ROG Ally Demo Shows Off Remarkable Performance
A new video shared by YouTuber The Phawx has successfully showcased the arrival of Valve's SteamOS to rival portable console, the ASUS ROG Ally. The latest video demonstrates how the SteamOS will run on other gaming platforms, and according to the YouTuber, the performance of the system is remarkable.
However, it is important to note that this version of the SteamOS (v 3.8) is not yet the official port meant to run on other devices apart from the Steam Deck. There are still several compatibility issues that have been, such as the Xbox Guide button having no functions or purposes when using the SteamOS.
There Are Various Compatibility Issues with SteamOS Port
Additionally, it was also noted that the SteamOS' quick menu is unavailable. Users instead need to head to the main menu to access these set of options via the ROG Ally.
According to PCGamesN, the quick menu registers 120Hz display and also includes the VRR toggle feature, which is exclusive to the ROG Ally but not the Steam Deck. Moreover, the setting is currently locked to 15W if users attempt to limit the TDP.
Despite these issues, it is understandable as this is not yet the official version that is compatible with other platforms like the ROG Ally.
Ultimately, the SteamOS running on ROG Ally via the YouTuber's showcase shows off an excellent performance, and it is teasing a massive future for this operation system on other devices.
The Steam Deck has been regarded as one of the best handheld gaming consoles in the market as it offers a top-of-its-class operating system, Steam Deck-verified titles, remarkable features, a notable battery life, and more. That being said, the report claims that there might be changes from Valve, particularly as it may prioritize partnering with manufacturers to feature the operating system.
