Following the tragic attacks in Brussels, Belgium, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel the red carpet for the London premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The premiere screening, however, will move forward as scheduled.
The studio said in a statement: "Our hearts go out to the victims of recent terrorist attacks, their families and the communities impacted around the world. Rather than yield to terror, we’ve decided to join the film’s fans and move forward with the London premiere of Batman v Superman this evening."
Extra precaution was deemed necessary in the wake of the Brussels attacks, which killed dozens of people in bombings Tuesday morning. In November, Europe was rocked by the Paris attacks, which left 130 dead from coordinated terrorist attacks. Despite the tense feeling in the air, fans arrived in masses at the Odeon Leicester Square in London.
Batman v Superman is expected to launch the new DC cinematic universe, setting the stage for Woman Woman and Justice League movies arriving in 2017. Expectations are high. Variety reports that Batman v Superman will gross “ more than $300 million globally when it rolls out across more than 60 major territories, including China, the world’s second biggest market for film.”
The film stars a blockbuster cast, featuring Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor) and Amy Adams (Lois Lane). Here’s an official synopsis of Batman v Superman, courtesy of DC: It's been nearly two years since Superman's (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters March 25.
