Tom Clancy’s The Division has only been on stores shelves for a little over 24 hours but the community has already uncovered the first of what will undoubtedly be several resource exploits in The Division.

As many players are already aware, crafting looks like it’s going to play a big role in The Division. Sure, new loot practically rains down from the sky in Massive Entertainment’s new massively-multiplayer shooter. But anyone who’s spent a little time assembling their own gear knows the player-made equipment in The Division tends to be significantly better than whatever leftovers you manage to pull off of fallen Rikers, rioters and/or Cleaners.

Thankfully, this isn’t the kind of exploit that breaks the game (or ruins the experience) for other Division players. You might upset a few folks, who thought they’d finally found a team to scour Manhattan with, but this doesn’t involve camping a particular spot or becoming the biggest asshole in the Dark Zone. All you need is time and patience.

To take advantage of the exploit, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Find a source of electronics, fabric, tools or weapon parts
  2. Loot all of the nearby containers but DO NOT LEAVE THE LOOT ZONE
  3. Open the matchmaking screen
  4. Search for a new Free Roam group
  5. Wait for the game to drop you in a new instance
  6. Re-loot the same containers of crafting materials you just searched
  7. Rinse and Repeat as needed

Obviously, rounding up dozens of crafting materials in this manner is going to take a little bit of time. For starters, matchmaking usually takes a minute or two to complete and there’s no telling how long it will take for you to be pulled into a new instance when searching for a new team. That said, the process is still probably faster than running around Manhattan, hoping to stumble across whatever resource node you’re looking for. Sure, it might take a few minutes. But that won’t seem so bad once you’re running around with new armor and/or firearms you built yourself.
