New details on the closed beta for Tom Clancy’s The Division are now online, including information on when players will be able to start installing the pre-launch build of the game, continuing an already busy week for Ubisoft’s upcoming open-world shooter.
Our latest update on the game’s closed beta actually comes courtesy of the Tom Clancy’s The Division community. It seems a few people have already been given access to a private beta for the game. One of whom decided to hop on reddit and let fans know they could expect a 26-plus gigabyte download when the beta begins next week.
Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like well-prepared beta testers will lose game time to the lengthy download and installation process. According to a new report from Videogamer, users on each platform will be able to download and install the Tom Clancy’s The Division beta build two days before the servers are opened. That means Xbox One owners can begin installing the game on Tuesday, Jan. 26, while PC and PS4 owners will be forced to wait until Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Elsewhere, The Examiner reports Tom Clancy’s The Division is still bleeding features during its final sprint to the finish line. Recently, we learned The Division’s map will be much smaller than originally expected and that players won’t be able to trade items with one another at launch. Now, it seems Massive has been forced to ditch the demographic-based matchmaking service originally expected to serve as the backbone of The Division’s online experience. Unfortunately, rather than pairing players with people of similar backgrounds, The Division will apparently use traditional matchmaking services that prioritize network speed over all else. It’s a relatively minor omission, in the grand scheme of things, but one that will certainly be missed anytime players are dumped into a squad with a homophobic teenager.
Last , but certainly not least, Ubisoft unveiled a new, live-action miniseries set in the weeks before the Tom Clancy’s The Division campaign begins. The first episode is currently online, and embedded below, with three more promised before The Division heads to stores in March.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is currently scheduled to debut on March 8.
