Details on League of Legends Patch 6.1 have been published by Riot Games, just one day after the studio revealed details on the game’s next champion, and the patch notes for League of Legends 6.1 outline a wide variety of changes ahead of the 2016 competitive season.
One of the most exciting changes coming in this year’s first League of Legends update is the arrival of the game’s updated champion selection system. Beginning in Patch 6.1, players will select desired roles when queuing up for League of Legends rankedmatches. Servers will attempt to pair players whose desired roles fit together into a cohesive team, hopefully cutting down on some of the pre-game arguing that’s become common in League of Legends.
Riot also revamped the ban phase, for draft games, giving a bit more power to the players making the last three picks on either team. There are also tweaks to dozens of champions from the League of Legends roster, from Bard to Urgot, and many of the items that can be purchased for those characters. Minions will be more defensive, when enemy champions try to harass you, and fans were given their first look at the Challenger Nidalee skin that will debut in the coming weeks. As if all that weren’t enough, League of Legends Patch 6.1 delivers the usual cornucopia of bug fixes we’ve come to expect from new updates.
In addition to releasing patch notes for League of Legends Patch 6.1, Riot Games also announced plans to revamp a longtime member of the game’s roster. Recognizing that Shen’s abilities are beginning to feel a bit dated, particularly in an era of time-traveling champions, Riot is planning a significant overhaul of League of Legends’ resident ninja. The devs says Shen still “likes to be punched in the face.” But two of the champion’s abilities and character model have both gone back under the knife.
Details on Shen’s updated abilities can be found on the League of Legends website, along with complete patch notes for League of Legends Patch 6.1
