Star Wars Rebels Season 2 episodes return on Jan. 20 and Entertainment Weekly just unveiled a brand new trailer revealing what’s in store. The biggest surprise is an unexpected connection between Star Wars Rebels, set in the years before the original Star Wars, and Star Wars: Episode 7 The Force Awakens, which takes place decades later.
Check out the spine-tingling new trailer for Star Wars Rebels Season 2:
Star Wars Rebels Season 2
Origin of Kylo Ren's Lightsaber in 'The Force Awakens'?
Y’all saw what I saw, right? In a flurry of lightsabers, one stands out: a green lightsaber sharing the basic design of Kylo Ren’s broadsaber from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In some ways this shouldn’t be too surprising. Kylo Ren’s lightsaber was first unveiled at Star Wars Celebration, along with the following description:
“Kylo Ren’s unusual lightsaber is an ancient design, although the one he carries is recently constructed. The crossguard blades, or quillons, are raw power vented from the primary central blade.”
The broadsaber activated by padawan Ezra Bridger in the new Season 2 Star Wars Rebels trailer is clearly not Kylo Ren’s. Even if you’re color blind, there’s no mistaking the sputtery, raw lightsaber Kylo Ren wields in The Force Awakens.
Instead it looks like Star Wars Rebels Season 2 will dive into the same Jedi history that inspired and transformed Ben Solo into Kylo Ren.
