It looks like something fundamental is going to happen to change the latter days of the Wii U: Minecraft is coming. Minecraft Wii U Edition is looking more and more like a real thing, and its release date can’t be that far off. The game has already been rated in the European Union, after all, and that doesn’t happen unless a game really is likely to come out. However, a less pressing but more exciting question comes to mind: Will Minecraft come to the Nintendo NX? And what kind of potential will it have, if the Nintendo NX is what we think it is? The answer: It will be a revolution.
Minecraft Wii U Edition Is Just A Tease For Minecraft NX
Minecraft Wii U Edition is nothing if not late to the game. No matter; it’ll sell a million copies or more anyway. That’s the nature of Minecraft. Chances are, if Old Man Internet’s tales are true, the game will make good use of the GamePad as an always-visible inventory, which—while it will hardly change how the game is played—will be a very welcome ease-of-use addition.
But Minecraft NX Edition will be a totally different matter. It’ll be a gamechanger—provided that it happens and that the Wall Street Journal report on the nature of the Nintendo NX is true. According to that story from a month or so back, the Nintendo NX is—as long suspected/dreamed/hoped—a console and handheld hybrid, roughly as powerful as the PlayStation 4. With its strong launch lineup, it’ll catapult Nintendo back into the current generation, but with exciting and innovative hardware to match.
But think what that means for Minecraft. Face it—Minecraft Pocket Edition kinda sucks. And the PlayStation Vita version requires, well, a PlayStation Vita, which you don’t have. But imagine if the Nintendo NX can offer a full, complete, and portable version of Minecraft, as modern as any of the console editions and not hobbled by the limitations of mobile devices. Isn’t that the dream?
That’s what I yearn for from Minecraft NX Edition: The classic console edition, playable both at home and on-the-go via whatever version of the GamePad comes with the Nintendo NX, with the same crisp high-fidelity graphics we except from Minecraft.
Sure, this is deep in speculation territory. Minecraft Wii U Edition isn’t even officially confirmed yet, although it will be sooner rather than later. And the true nature of the Nintendo NX remains a secret, and leaks are just leaks. And Minecraft Wii U Edition doesn’t guarantee Minecraft NX Edition, certainly not promptly. But it’s promising. It’s a reason to hope, that’s for certain.
