One of the surprise hits of 2015 is Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker. The game that allows for players to create their own Mario Levels and challenge other creator’s stages had a lot of buzz surrounding it before its Sept. 11 release date.
And now, Nintendo has released the sales numbers of Super Mario Maker after about three weeks in the market and they are impressive.
According to Nintendo’s internal sales figures, which includes standalone, bundles and digital copies, more than one million units of Super Mario Maker have been sold around the world.
“For Mario fans around the world, including myself, Super Mario Maker was a dream 30 years in the making,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “The game has captured and unlocked the imaginations of gaming fans of all ages and brought their dedication to Nintendo to a whole new level.”
Along with the one million Super Mario Maker units sold, Nintendo has also announced that there have been over 2.2 million Mario levels created since launch and those 2.2 million Mario Maker levels have been played nearly 75 million times!
The numbers are staggering, and a welcome sign for Nintendo and its Wii U as the company hasn’t seen this amount of unit pushing since Splatoon. But with the mainstream appeal of Mario (who doesn’t love Mario?) Super Mario Maker was destined to succeed from the aforementioned positive buzz and reviews that followed its release.
And with updates and patches to Super Mario Maker coming -- and possible DLC approaching -- it seems Nintendo are really dedicated to supporting its current titles for a long period of time. Just look at the support Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon are getting months after their respective launches. And Super Mario Maker will be no exception.
