Super Mario Maker’s release date is Sept. 11 but the Japanese Nintendo website opened up the Mario Maker page and in it gave a lot of hints as to what players should expect with the stage-building game featuring Nintendo’s mascot.
According to the Super Mario Maker Japanese website, via Nintendo Everything, the game will support over 99 amiibo costumes.
With the exception of the Mii fighters, there will be compatibility for every figure, including Pokemon, Chibi-Rob, and some of the Animal Crossing cards. But if you don’t own some or any of the Amiibo, you won’t have to worry. Players will still be able to win the various costumes without using the Amiibo.
By playing through the 100 Mario Challenge, you will win all of the Amiibo costumes in Super Mario Maker.
For those wondering, the Amiibo costumes in Super Mario Maker are just for the 8-bit version of Mario and stages. So no 3D models of Samus or Marth running around Mushroom Kingdom stages.
It’s still pretty cool though and as the webmaster for the Pokémon news site, Serebii, Joe Merrick points out the Pokémon Amiibo will be a part of the 99 Amiibo that Super Mario Maker supports. Just in case you were wondering.
Check out the Japanese trailer for Super Mario Maker as it explains how Amiibos work in-game. The Amiibo part appears around the 4:30 mark. And let us know if you’ll be picking up Super Mario Maker for yourself in the comments section.
