With Super Mario Run now available for iOS, many enthusiastic reviews are rolling out. While opinions are largely positive, it seems there there are some pain points. One in particular is the need for a constant internet connection, which rules out gameplay for those who have long commutes on trains or other areas where service may be spotty or nonexistent. Users may be able to complete a course if a connection times out in the middle of a level, but not everyone has reported such luck.
Here are some more annoyances users may encounter while playing Super Mario Run
Kyle Orland of ArsTechnica reported slow gameplay and frequent freezing while playing Super Mario Run on an iPhone 5 handset. Older iOS devices compatible with at least iOS 8 can support Super Mario Run ; however, users will want to keep in mind that low hardware capacities may also hinder playback. Orland noted he didn’t experience these issues while playing on an iPhone 7.
Several sources, including Cydia Geeks and Touch Arcade, have reported Super Mario Run crashing issues on devices that are jailbroken.
Jose Otero of IGN reported the automatic forward movement of Super Mario Run makes special moves and precision landings difficult to master.
Peter Brown of Gamespot expressed his annoyance that the $10 fee for Super Mario Run does not unlock all of the characters in the game. Users must complete Toad Rally races (which have not been reviewed favorably across the board) to unlock certain characters.
Overall, reviewers note the cap of 24 levels in Super Mario Run leave the game somewhat underwhelming.
