The upcoming Beyond & Below expansion for Surviving Mars is going live on September 7. This is the first premium expansion since Green Planet was released back in 2019. It’s priced at $19.99 and available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
This upcoming expansion pushes to the limits of what is possible on the Red Planet. Indeed, there’s a lot of new things that players can do. It’s not just what’s under the planet. Those with foresight, for example, can put rocket-propelled buildings on any passing asteroids to get exotic resources.
Key features of this new expansion include:
- Back to the Bases
- Expand your colony into caves and even lava tubes.
- There is the choice to use existing structures or underground-specific buildings.
- Don’t be too easy going with your expansion since a cave-in could destroy everything you worked for.
- Mine Your Own Business
- Players can now mine resources not only under the surface but even beyond the planet.
- Make the most out of passing asteroids but don’t forget to return to the planet.
- Branching Paths
- The Recon and Expansion research tree unlocks additional buildings, vehicles, upgrades, and locales.
- It also unlocks asteroid mining and tunnel colonization.
In a statement, Product Manager for Surviving Mars at Paradox Interactive Magnus Lysell shared that when they were planning what to do next for the game, they knew that they really wanted something that’s not already explored. Clearly, the new expansion interestingly expands the gameplay. He went on to say that they are excited to continue exploring the planet with everyone.
Radio Pack
To be released along with the new expansion is the Mars Lifestyle Radio Pack. It offers 16 original tracks with the music totaling 70 minutes. This is available for $3.99 on GOG, Steam, and Microsoft stores. The PlayStation version though is a bit higher at $4.99.
Surviving Mars is a city building simulation game that takes place on Mars. What makes this game different is it has been modeled using real Martian data. It was released in 2018 and received generally favorable reviews.
