One of the most popular anime/manga right now is Sword Art Online, the story of a virtual reality game gone awry that dissects the line between reality and fantasy. Now, IBM Japan wants to make Sword Art Online a reality.

The company just announced its Sword Art Online: The Beginning virtual reality project. According to the official website -- via Gematsu -- the project looks to make the world made popular by the Sword Art Online light novels and anime come to life using its next-generation computing system.

The project will use the “Cognitive System” that supports human decision-making as well as “Softlayer,” IBM’s high-performance cloud system that produces the ambiance of a real world.

IBM Japan is looking to have an alpha test ready between March 18 and 20 in Tokyo and the official website is taking applications until March 4 so if you want to test your luck and enter the world of SAO, have everything ready by then.
