The first-ever digital version of Taboo – Official Party Game is officially out and available on Android and iOS. With this, everyone can now bring the fun with them anywhere and anytime. In addition to having all the original prompt cards fans, there is also specialized content like themed decks available in-app.
Taboo was first published back in 1989. Since then, the physical version has become a favorite at many parties worldwide. The game divides a group into two teams where each team needs to guess what’s written on the card with the “clue giver” making sure that the five taboo words listed are not used.
Exciting as the game may be, it’s not going to be free and currently priced at $1.99 on the Google Play Store and the App Store. The good news is that once you do buy it, it’s completely ad-free. In addition, there are no extra payments needed to play the whole game.
Two Ways to Play
There are two ways to play the game. The first is when everyone is in the same place, they can use the Local Party Mode. Just share the game code and everybody can immediately join. If everyone is far apart, they can still play the game. This is because of the Online Video Party Mode. With in-game video chat, two to six friends can team up no matter where they are. To do this, just follow these steps:
- Set up the free account.
- Invite friends.
- Text chat in-app, in private.
- Start games straight from the chats.
- Transition smoothly to video chat when the game begins.
In a statement, Marmalade Game Studios CEO Cristina Mereuta shared that the best way to describe the game is “pure chaotic fun.” While it is best-played face-to-face, the mobile version has its own twist. The in-game video chat means players can play together as if they are in the same room. She went on to say that this particular feature is what sets this game apart from others.
Will this mobile version be able to hold up to the original tabletop?
