So far about all we know of the plot for Thor: Ragnarok is that it takes Thor and The Hulk on a cosmic road movie of some sort. While the third Thor movie is expected to have major consequences for the Marvel universe, setting the scene for Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1, little else is known beyond the laughs director Taika Waititi intends to bring to it (Waititi previously directed vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows). But a new rumor from Latino Review claiming to draw from sources close to “the developing Thor: Ragnarok story” might just blow the story wide open.
Major potential spoilers for the plot of Thor: Ragnarok ahead.
Cate Blanchett has been rumored to play the villain of Thor: Ragnarok, and now Latino Review (LR) thinks it knows her character’s identity. According to their leak, Blanchett will play the Goddess of Death, Hela.
“Hela will take Asgard and Thor attempts to stop her,” writes Kellvin Chavez of LR. “Hela lays the smackdown on the God of Thunder, destroying his hammer and straight up murdering Thor’s friend Heimdall.”
Heimdall, played by Idris Elba, controls the portal into and out of Thor’s realm, Asgard. He has appeared in both previous Thor movies and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
But Idris Elba won’t be gone from the Marvel universe just yet. LR ’s sources insist that he’ll return for the final battle, when the righteous fallen unite with Thor and the armies of Valhalla to fend of Hela and her “army of the dead.”
Between Thor: Ragnarok, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 it seems that a lot of people are going to die before the end of Marvel Phase 3.
