It looks like 2K managed to hit the jackpot when it entered into an exclusive and long-term partnership with none other than Tiger Woods. That’s right, one of the most celebrated players in golf history. If you don’t know who he is, you’ve probably been living under a rock.
Tiger Woods has 15 major championship wins and 82 PGA TOUR victories. He was also named as PGA TOUR Player of the Year 11 times. It’s safe to say that he is indeed one of the best golfers of all time.
Tiger Woods Deal
Under the agreement, 2K now has the right to use the name and likeness of Tiger Woods exclusively for the PGA TOUR 2K franchise. That’s not all as 2K also has the same right for any other golf games that it publishes. In turn, Woods is set to have an active role as executive director and consultant with PGA TOUR 2K.
In a press release, 2K President David Ismailer shared that when it comes to golf, there is no bigger name than Tiger Woods. He added that while they are indeed saddened by his recent accident, they are hoping for a full recovery. Ismailer added that they are more than happy to have Woods join the franchise.
Tiger Woods, meanwhile, revealed that he is excited to make a return to the video game and it seems that 2K is the right partner for it. It should be noted that this statement was made before his accident.
Additionally, 2K has also partnered with the Woods’ TGR Foundation, so it’s not all about video games.
HB Studios Deal
Besides the Tiger Woods deal, 2K revealed that they’re acquiring HB Studios Multimedia, the developer of PGA TOUR 2K21 and The Golf Club franchise. 2K said that the acquisition is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
Ismailer shared that by getting HB Studios, they have reaffirmed their commitment to the PGA TOUR 2K franchise. James Seaboyer of HB Studios said that their love and knowledge when it comes to golf has always been shown in their games. He added that they are happy to be part of 2K and be able to continue working on the PGA TOUR 2K series.
