UPDATE: A Capcom representative has confirmed Umbrella Corps will make its North American debut on June 21.

Original Story: New details on Umbrella Corps’ player customization systems were released this week, courtesy of Capcom’s recently hired social media specialist, Tim Turi, but the latest round of disclosures about the upcoming shooter included a bit of bad news. Turns out, Umbrella Corps isn’t going to be ready for its Japanese debut quite as early as expected, and that’s throwing some doubt on the claims that Umbrella Corps willmake its way to North America this June.

According to Turi’s latest blog post, Umbrella Corps will offer a wide variety of customization options, giving players the freedom to personalize their character and the various firearms they’ll carry into battle. Players can probably guess most of what we’ll see, as far as weapon mods are concerned, with the usual suppressors, scopes, expanded magazines, etc. Umbrella Corps will also let players swap their currently assigned emotes before each match. Unlike some modern shooters, emotes will play a significant role in Umbrella Corps, giving teams the ability to communicate without speaking. The emotes should be particularly handy on PS4, since voice communication is a bit less common on consoles than PC.

Unfortunately, it looks like we could be waiting a little longer than expected for Umbrella Corps to make its global debut. Previously, Capcom planned to release the game in Japan this May, with plans for a global launch sometime in June. Now, the company says Umbrella Corps won’t debut until June 21. It’s not clear what this means for the game’s North American launch. Obviously, we’re hoping this means Capcom plans to release the multiplayer shooter in more than one region. We’ve reached out to the company, hoping for more information on the matter, and will update this post if/when we hear back from Capcom.

Umbrella Corps is in development for PC and PlayStation 4. The game debuts on June 21.
