Halo: The Television Series and the Xbox One were announced at the same time way back 2013. Xbox One came out on November of the same year while Halo: The Television Series… it wasn’t so lucky. It's now six years later, 2019, and finally some details from the much-awaited video game adaptation have emerged.
After having very little to no news at all for years about the said TV series, Showtime recently revealed that they’ve found just the right person to play the protagonist of their series. We all know him as Pornstache from Orange is the New Black and the leprechaun, Mad Sweeney from American Gods. Pablo Schreiber has been cast in the Halo TV series as Master Chief, the game’s iconic protagonist. According to The Hollywood Report, Showtime wanted a ‘Spartan-like warrior of large build’. Fairly enough, Pablo Schreiber does suit that description.
Schreiber will also be joined by Yerin Ha, a Korean-Australian actress. She will play an original character named Quan Ah. The character is described as a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time. Two more confirmed characters have yet to find the right actresses. The first one is Dr. Halsey, a scientist in charge of the Spartan program and is also the mother figure of Master Chief. The other one is another original character for the series named Jenny.
The series originally received a 10-episode order but was reduced to 9 episodes after Rupert Wyatt was replaced by Otto Bathurst as the executive producer and director. Kyle Killen and Steve Kane will be the co-showrunners and executive producers. Aside from Showtime, Amblin Entertainment, owned by Steven Spielberg, is also taking a huge part in the series’ production. Developer 343 Industries will also be joining the team to make sure that the spirit of the game remains intact when it is adapted and turned into a TV series.
The production is said to begin this fall in Budapest, Hungary. Do you think this series will be worth its more than half a decade wait or will it all go to waste? I guess we’ll find out when it finally comes out, but we still don’t know when since Showtime has yet to announce an air date.
