It was during the Shadow Society Event of Apex Legends when the Cobalt Katar was introduced. This was a universal Mythic Melee cosmetic which could be wielded by any Legend. If you're one of those who liked it then you'd be happy to hear that more are coming. The Upheaval update gives players a new way to personalize their experience. Get ready to enjoy the Apex Artifacts.
What are these items? Apex Artifacts were actually given to each of the Legends courtesy of the Mercenary Syndicate. It's a way of bringing something new and exciting to the Games. The Mercenary Syndicate also hopes that it can distract from the recent disruptions made by the Revenant and the untimely death of Duardo Silva. Each Katar is powered by the smallest particle of Branthium to maintain their ominous presence.
Thanks to Rampart, these Katars were created with the ability to be modded for customization to each preference of the wielders, meaning the players.
Make Your Own
How this all works is that players begin with the Katar Base. This item can be obtained through the Mythic Shop though it can also appear in Milestone events, similar to the Cobalt Katar in Shadow Society. Once the base is chosen, what follows are the Themes, Power Sources, Activation Emotes, and Death Boxes. Overall, players can look forward to around 200 combinations.
By the way, each upgrade component, which includes the Death Box, can be obtained using Exotic Shards. This new currency can be purchased directly like Apex Coins.
The Nitride Variant
In addition to the Cobalt, other Katar Base are Electrum, Gladius, Molten, Rhodium, and Nitride. The Nitride variant in particular is unlocked once players are able to collect all five variants of an upgrade component. For example, once a players collects the five Katar bases, they can unlock the Nitride base.
In addition to the Apex Artifacts, the Upheaval update also brings to our dimension a new Legend and there are changes made to the Broken Moon map.
