The Valley Children’s Healthcare is known not only for giving comprehensive care but also for its mascot, George the Giraffe. In about a week, George is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch with his very own video game. Titled Castle on the Coast , it’s launching on December 2.
The development of this game started several years back. The goal was to offer patients waiting to see their doctor or those staying in the hospital an age-appropriate fun game. George has long been the symbol of love and care at Valley Children’s. As a backstory, a giraffe was chosen as the mascot since they have the largest heart of any land mammal. Even before the video game, George already made an appearance in a different media through a series of books.
In a statement, President and CEO Todd Suntrapak shared that Valley Children’s has always been about preserving the joy of childhood of each patient that they have been given the privilege of looking over. He added that this video game is but a new way to bring fun to the kids that they see and those around the world.
Castle on the Coast has George go through various levels full of crystal caverns, stone-laden halls, and alternate dimensions. George can run up walls, spin, climb, and roll his way through the game and collect special gems as he passes each level. The game is appropriate for children who are at least 6 years old.
The thing about this game is that it also offers a co-op mode where George gets help from his squirrel friend called Swirlz. With co-op mode, even the youngest of gamers can enjoy it with their friends or sitters. Besides the arcade fun, it also has a more serious and moral angle. It touches upon dealing with loss, conflict, and loving your enemies.
For PC players, here are the system requirements of the game:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- Processor: Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: 2 GB VRAM
- Storage: 1 GB available space
If you’re not sure if this game is for you, then head over to Steam and give it a try through the demo.
