The Drone Age Update for War Thunder is now live on all platforms. This major patch brings drones to the game, which helps players gain the upper hand on the battlefield.
Two types of unmanned aerial vehicles or UAVs are introduced in the Drone Age Update. The first is a reconnaissance UAV that players can use to scout the battlefield, providing some much-needed intel to the team. This type of drone is available to Rank VI and Rank VII light vehicles as upgrade modules.
The second is the combat UAV, a drone equipped with target sight systems, thermal vision, and laser target designators. What makes this particular UAV special is it is armed with guided bombs and missiles. Want to destroy enemy tanks using a drone? This is the one you should get.
Aside from UAVs, this patch also made some really cool improvements in the visual effects department. For instance, tanks that take heavy damage will have their road wheels get burned and fly away, similar to what happens in real life. Players who decide to destroy the tank’s hull altogether will cause it to explode, leaving nothing in its wake.

- Conditions for crediting serious damage to ground vehicles have been changed: destruction of optics, wheels and also partial damage to the barrel and cannon breech are no longer considered serious damage and can not lead to vehicle destruction assistance.
