Finally, inXile Entertainment, now acquired by Microsoft, has announced the release date for Wasteland 3. The Wasteland franchise is popular for is post-apocalyptic setting and many games have taken inspiration from the series. Although games inspired by the Wasteland series continued to release steadily, Wasteland 3 required a much longer time to come up with a new addition to the series.
The gap between Wasteland 2 and Wasteland 3 is about six years. The Wasteland games are best known for their post-apocalyptic setting rather than their gameplay. The release date for Wasteland 3 was revealed at Microsoft’s X019 alongside the 1987 trailer. The Wasteland 3 gameplay trailer confirmed May 19, 2020 as the official release date for the game.
In the new gameplay trailer, viewers can see a post-apocalyptic Colorado. The setting indicates that the game’s world is in the middle of a rebuilding process, where new statues are being erected and organizations are getting established. Regarding the gameplay, players can experience Wasteland 3 as a single-player campaign or co-op. Developer inXile has also stated that the game emphasizes story-driven-co-op and strategic combat.
Wasteland 3 will be available on the Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and PC. Wasteland 3 is a new addition to the Xbox Game Pass along with over 40 new games that are expected to make up to the service by 2020.
It is quite rare to see franchises making new games 30 years after their inception. A few franchises that make up to this list include Warcraft, Wolfenstein, Diablo, Doom, and The Elder Scrolls. Most franchises naturally come to their end or die out, but it is always nice to see historical franchises coming up with new games.
