We got an all-powerful dragon and a gimmicky Priest spell in today’s Hearthstone: Whispers of the Old Gods card reveals. Let’s start with the Priest spell that Liquid posted on their website this morning. Embrace The Shadow costs two mana and makes your healing effects deal damage instead. It’s an Auchenai Soulpriest in a spell, which is pretty bad. For two mana more, you get a strong minion that has an effect that lasts for multiple turns. Even in a dedicated Priest burn deck, this card just doesn't shine. It costs too much and does too little, though the artwork is going to look great as a golden card.
Kibler , who has always been known for his dragon decks, got to reveal one of the most powerful dragons in the game. Deathwing, Dragonlord is a ten-mana 12/12 Legendary with: “Deathrattle: Put all Dragons from your hand into the battlefield.” On the surface it seems only a little better than the original Deathwing, which was the first Legendary I ever pulled. It has the same stats, but doesn't blow up the field while discarding your hand.
This new bringer of death does not immediately lose all value when he hears “I’ve got a beast in my sights.” Big Game Hunter made the original Deathwing unplayable. Losing 10 mana with nothing in your hand to play is devastating and dangerous. With Deathwing, Dragonlord , you can summon any dragons in your hand. They could be as small as a Twilight Whelp or be as gigantic as Ysera. This card will be a mainstay in Dragon Priest, one of the few decks that won’t be neutered by the format change.
Imagine dropping Deathwing, Dragonlord , having him die and then summoning Chillmaw and all his scaly brethren. Maybe there’s a way to create a N’zoth, the Corrupter dragon deck, but that might just be a bit too gimmicky. I’m super excited to spend all the dust from my 50 packs of WOTG to craft this majestic fire breather.
