Sony's June State of Play was a solid event, but it was still very light on first-party titles. If you are a PS owner, you know that one of the biggest appeals of the console is its amazing exclusives.
The year 2022 has been big for Sony. Early this year, players received Horizon Forbidden West, a solid sequel to Zero Dawn; racing fans also got Gran Turismo 7. There are five months to go before 2022 ends, and PS owners still have two more exclusives to enjoy. The first is The Last of Us Part 1, and the other is God of War Ragnarök, both of which will be out in the next few months.
Insomniac Games
But what’s next? Details about PlayStation's upcoming games are scarce. We know that Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine are being developed by Insomniac Games. Wolverine is quite far away, and Spider-Man 2 is still planned for 2023. The upcoming event could show us the gameplay of the next web-slinger game.
Naughty Dog
Sony’s crown jewel, Naughty Dog, is confirmed to be working on The Last of Us Factions, a multiplayer-only title. However, I don’t expect to see that game at the event. The developer confirmed during Summer Game Fest that the MP game would be revealed next year.
Other Studios
These are the only three games we know about. Sony has a lot of studios that should have something ready to show at the upcoming event. We could see what Bend Studios has been working on for the last few years; we know that it's a new IP, not Days Gone 2.
I would love to see what Bluepoint Games' new project is. A remake of an older IP by the acclaimed studio will excite many fans. I am hoping for the re-imagination of the original GOW trilogy, although that might be a tall order.
Sucker Punch Productions' last game, Ghost of Tsushima, was released two years ago. They could give us a glimpse of its next major project.
Rumored PS Showcase
According to recent rumors, PlayStation Showcase should take place later this month. However, it won't be a surprise if it gets delayed to September. We only have to wait for a little while to know which amazing games will be playing in the future.
So what do you think? Are you excited about PlayStation Showcase? Which old franchise would you love to see? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
