This year we got a bit of a different April Fools’ Day in League of Legends . Instead of Ultra Rapid Fire, we got a whole lot of Draven. On the April 1 of every year since 2009, Riot has done something unique and cool for the holiday. The first of which introduced everyone’s favorite manatee. Since then, we have gotten skins to commemorate Urfs demise, a flash game called Cho’Gath Eats the World , and U.R.F. mode. This year, many feel that Riot underperformed, not living up to the high standards it has created in previous years.
Players have been taking to the forums a n d yelling into the internet void about how much they hated this event. Some say it feels rushed, while others just wanted U.R.F. mode back into the game. Draven head mode seems to be argued about most. Every champion and minion in the game has Draven’s head (Tristana is half a Draven head in height), no matter how ridiculous it looks. The Draven head always looks into the camera, giving off a bit of an uncanny valley vibe.
Thankfully, the mode is currently disabled, giving some players what they wanted. A front page reddit post titled: “so with Draven mode being disabled….” Is filled with angry reddit commenters:
On other post we get:
Riot tried to do something nice for the community, giving us something to tide us over until U.R.F. mode was ready (we are also getting it twice this year). Instead of being thankful, the community spit Cassiopeia venom back, claiming this isn’t what they deserved. Here’s a fun fact about League of Legends : it’s a free-to play game and Riot doesn’t have to give you any special events. They choose to because they like their player base and know they expect great things.
If one event doesn’t turn out the way you wanted, just wait for the next one. The Burning Tides was an awesome event that gave us a Gangplank skin for free. Riot didn’t have to give us anything, but instead we got some of the best Urf skins and a legacy Draven bobblehead skin.
Riot tried something new, which may not have worked this time, but I’d rather that they try to innovate and make mistakes than do nothing at all.
Now go back to being salty about solo queue and leave Draven out of this.
