The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is known as one of the best games of the last decade. It has been a great success for CD Projekt both critically and financially. CD Projekt's latest game, Cyberpunk 2077, may not have received as much praise as Witcher 3, however, it is still a major financial success.
The company recently announced the official sales figure of both franchises, and boy are the numbers big.
Sales Figure of Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 sold more than 18 million copies. That is a very impressive figure given its technical disaster for the first few months since release. For several months the title wasn’t even available on the PS Store.
Cyberpunk is less than two years old. I would expect the sales figure to increase even more, especially after its major expansion is released (more on this below).
Sales Figure of The Witcher
The Witcher franchise, CD Projekt’s golden goose, sold more than 65+ million copies. The latest major entry in the franchise, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is alone responsible for 40 million of those sales. Sales of W3 can increase even more when its next-gen upgrade is released.
Next-Gen Upgrade of The Witcher 3
CD Projekt announced a few days ago that the next-gen upgrade of Witcher 3 has been delayed indefinitely. The developer of the upgrade, Saber Interactive, has been taken off the project, and CD Projekt will complete the rest of the work themselves.
Cyberpunk 2077 Expansion Pack
CD Projekt announced yesterday that the expansion pack of Cyberpunk 2077 is still very much in development. However, it won’t be coming out anytime soon. Players should expect the expansion to arrive in 2023, more than two years after the main game release. More info about the expansion pack will be released later this year.
In other news, a new Witcher game has been announced, and it will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. You can check out the previous article for more information.
