In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Monday, Hugh Jackman confirmed he has finished filming his scenes in the upcoming Wolverine 3, rumored to be called Wolverine: Weapon X.
“There’s gonna be some stuff coming out in the next week or so,” Jackman told ET’s Carly Steel. “That’s all I’ll say. I’m not good. I’m the kind of person who tells everybody everything. Basically, it’s going to be very different. Very different in tone and hopefully different to anything we’ve done.”
At the end of the interview, Steel pressed about the differences in store for the legendary X-Man, at one point clarifying, “He’s older?” Jackman responded with an easy chuckle, pointing at his face and saying, “which is a good thing. Easy for me to play.”
Wolverine 3 has long been rumored to follow the Old Man Logan story arc from the comics, which Jackman and the film’s creative team have teased on multiple occasions. Jackman’s latest comment about Wolverine adds fuel to those persistent rumors.
The Old Man Logan storyline, written by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, is set more than 50 years in the future, in a world where heroes don’t exist and supervillains rule. A series of tragic events leads Logan to throw away his old ‘Wolverine’ persona and wander the land trying to atone for his actions. In this dystopian society, he refuses to use his claws until the very end when he decides to seek vengeance. Previous photos from the set of Wolverine 3 have shown Jackman sporting a more mature look:
Producer Simon Kinberg has echoed Jackman’s comments about the tone, confirming the movie will be R-rated and “kind of like a Western.” We also know that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Professor X.
At any rate, fans should expect to hear more details about Wolverine 3 soon. Look out for new information to be revealed at New York Comic Con, which runs from Oct. 6-9. Wolverine 3 is slated to hit theaters March 3, 2017.
