The next member of the WWE 2K18 roster has been announced. It probably won’t come as a huge shock, given his recent return to the WWE Universe. But some fans might be surprised by just how much of a presence Kurt Angle will have when WWE 2K18 heads to consoles this fall.
Word of Angle’s involvement in this year’s WWE game comes from several places. The WWE Hall of Famer used Twitter to announce the news on Thursday afternoon, drawing excitement from many of his followers and those who saw retweets of the news. A press release from 2K began making the rounds a few hours later, featuring an extra morsel of good news for anyone who wasn’t content to hear the only Olympic gold medal winner in WWE history will finally make his return to the ring (even if it’s only a digital one). There will be two(!) different Kurts on the roster when WWE 2K18 heads to stores.
According to 2K, two versions of Kurt Angle will feature in this year’s wrestling game, as we’ve seen for other iconic in-ring performers -- John Cena, Mike Tyson and Steve Austin, just to name a few -- over the years. Anyone who pre-orders a copy of WWE 2K18 will get access to “American Hero” Kurt Angle, one of the most technically proficient grapplers in WWE history. This will presumably be based on the early years of his career. And we can only hope for a tiny cowboy hat appearance. Fans can also look forward to “Wrestling Machine” Kurt Angle. You might remember him as the bald man whose mouth was protected by VIOLENCE. He’s also quoted in the press release.
“I was thrilled to return to WWE earlier this year, be honored as a WWE Hall of Fame inductee and find a new home with the best in the business every Monday night as the Raw General Manager,” said Angle. “And now, I get to follow in the footsteps of many incredible names, like Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ultimate Warrior and Arnold Schwarzenegger.”
