Just when fans were beginning to worry there wouldn’t be a Long War mod for XCOM 2, after the mod team’s announced plans to form its own studio, but a new partnership between 2K, Firaxis and Long War Studios ensures the Long War squad will create a handful of new add-ons for XCOM 2.
Details on the partnership between the three companies remain scarce at this time. Firaxis says Long War Studios, which is currently a three-person outfit, hopes to have multiple XCOM 2 mods ready for deployment on launch day; however, neither Firaxis nor Long War is ready to disclose information on the content of those mods at this time. While it would be easy to assume another iteration of the Long War mod is in development, we’re not sure what else to expect from the newly-formed studio. After all, there’s already one team trying to make XCOM 2 a cooperative experience. So what’s left to do?
In addition to revealing the new partnership with Long War Studios, 2K used today’s update to remind fans that Firaxis will be hosting its own panel at PAX South. As you might expect, the Firaxis Megapanel will give the studio one last opportunity to show new XCOM 2 gameplay to fans before the game heads to stores in early February. The XCOM 2 community will also get its first look at the mod tools created by Firaxis and some of the add-ons currently being developed by Long War Studios. Fortunately, if can’t attend the convention in person, we’ll have plenty of PAX South coverage here on iDigitalTimes.
XCOM 2 is being developed exclusively for PC. The game is scheduled to debut on Feb. 5.
