We’re big fans of vibrant, low-stakes video games here at Player. One; games like Fantasy Life, Harvest Moon, Neko Atsume or Slime Rancher. The kind designed to be fun and relaxing. So imagine our excitement upon learning Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles -- a new RPG from Prideful Sloth that somehow eluded our radar -- hits PlayStation 4 and PC this week.
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is an open-world RPG inspired by a range of other titles that technically fall into the same genre, like Animal Crossing or Skyrim. The game is designed by a collective of former triple-A developers with backgrounds at Activision, Rocksteady and other major players in the games industry. And the team’s only goal was to deliver a open-world experience in which fans have plenty to do but aren’t pressured to do anything they aren’t going to enjoy. Yonder lets players build everything from crafting stations to entire structures, put their farming skills to the test or enjoy a relaxing afternoon of fishing. You can also explore a variety of environments, each with its own unique plant and animal life, and slowly restore an island paradise that’s been overcome by an “evil murk.”
Local wildlife aren’t the living things for players to interact with. The island of Gemea is home to several towns, each with its own unique villagers to befriend. Towns also have their own local economies, where players can buy/sell goods as needed or desired. Prideful Sloth says players’ actions will also impact each village on the island in a variety of ways. Some villagers will ask the player to perform certain tasks while others hope to sell their own creations. But you don’t even have to worry about making friends if you don’t want to.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles hits PlayStation 4 and PC on July 18.
