Monster Hunter World had a decently-sized presence at PlayStation Experience 2017 — the open beta kicked off and Capcom was on hand to show off some of the interesting new things you can do with your Palico pet in the game. Palicoes are cat-like creatures that can join your custom hunter on special Quests to help you hunt down monsters and collect items throughout the game. They’re also absolutely adorable.
Now, your Palico in Monster Hunter World can take on the role of a blocky, retro-inspired Mega Man. It’s all in the newest Monster Hunter World trailer, called “Third Fleet.” It shows off some of the enormous monsters you’ll square off against throughout the game, and they look fairly ferocious, which is obviously par for the course when it comes to Monster Hunter . But the real draw is obviously the Mega Man-outfitted Palico at the end. It’s not just a cute buster arm for the pet, either, but a full makeover for the character.
Palicoes are assigned when you first start up the game and create a character. You’ll have it to hang out with you throughout the rest of the story. A Mega Man -inspired buddy seems like an interesting novelty, and it’s no doubt going to attract players who love customization and all the other fun stuff that comes with Palicoes. This isn’t the first time and won’t be the last the cat-like creatures have gotten special customization items either. In the past, Monster Hunter offered special Sailor Moon, The Legend of Zelda, and even Metroid items to outfit your companions with.
The closed Monster Hunter World beta is going on right now for all PlayStation Plus subscribers on PlayStation 4, and it will run through Dec. 12 at 8:59 AM PT. This is your chance to get a jump on the game before it debuts on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Jan. 26. There’s a PC version releasing at a later date, but it hasn’t gotten a concrete release date just yet.
