4A Games Metro has been around for a couple of years now. The first two games Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light attracted many players. But it's the recently released title, Metro Exodus, that put the franchise on the map.
4A Games celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Metro video games. The developers gave a huge development update about what we can expect in the future. They also released a Metro Timeline Map that describes the studio and the titles.
New Metro Game
It's official, a new Metro is coming! Developers confirmed it's in the works but they are not ready to show anything. They also said that it will launch for the next-gen consoles and PC. The redo of the game's engine will take full advantage of new hardware.
"It’s no secret that we have already started work on the next Metro game. Using everything we’ve learned from the last 15 years, we’ve set our sights even higher – the next title is being built for Gen 9 consoles and PC,” The official announcement read.
Multiplayer Experience
4A Games are expanding their horizon. The developers mentioned a multiplayer-focused game based on the Metro universe. It’s still in early development and nothing is set in stone. We don’t know whether it will be PvP or PvE. They are still ‘figuring things out’ but it might become a separate experience or a part of the next game.
One thing is sure, the original single-player story-driven campaign remains the top priority. The works on MP will not affect the development of the campaign.
“Additionally, a reminder that it’s still early days – none of the thoughts above mean that the next Metro game will be multiplayer only; or that the next game will have single and multiplayer in the same package. The announcement further added.
Metro Exodus Next-Gen Release
This is no secret. Almost every game studio is upgrading their current-gen games for next-gen platforms. Metro Exodus will get a full release for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Don’t worry if you already bought the game. Owners of the game on PS4 and Xbox One will get an upgrade for free. The upgrade includes better frame rates, higher resolution, Ray-Tracing support, and reduced loading time.
Metro Exodus Linux And Mac Versions
4A Games confirmed yesterday the Metro Exodus for Linux and Mac. Though, the release date is still unknown. More information about them will be released soon.
New Intellectual Property
4A Games developers have, for the most part, worked only on Metro games. They released a small VR title, Arktika.1, for Oculus Rift. Other than that, their portfolio only has one franchise. Developers announced yesterday that they are developing a brand-new IP. We don’t know anything about the new IP. It’s likely years away as developers are focusing on the new Metro game.
Waiting this long for the fourth Metro game and the new IP is no easy task. Yet we can always relive the older titles. If you haven’t played the previous Metro games, we recommend that you do. Currently, they are on sale via Steam. You can buy the entire trilogy for a low price. The Metro franchise bundle includes the remastered version of 2033 and Last Light, plus Metro Exodus and its DLCs.
