A new minor civilization has been added to Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition to celebrate the rework of the native alliance system. Update 13.12327 also adds other pieces of new content, including new cards and technologies for the Lakota civilization, as well as new maps.
The Tengri Shrine is now available in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition. This new minor civilization gives you two units at your disposal, namely the Tatar Archer and Tengri Wolf. Furthermore, the Tengri Shrine provides new technologies, such as the Shaman Drums, Kumis, and Wind Horses.
You can ally with this minor civilization in the new Central Asia and Yamal maps. You can also find them in Siberia, Silk Road, Mongolia, and the Eurasian Steppe.
Minor Civilization Rework
As mentioned earlier, the addition of the Tengri Shrine is to celebrate the rework of the native alliance system.
Back then, you’d have to place a Trading Post at settlement sites to form an alliance with a minor civilization. In Update 13.12327, it is now possible to convert the settlement’s socket using any of your units. Simply walk up to a neutral settlement with any unit and you should see a capture flag signifying that the settlement has been converted. Doing so will allow you to slowly build a trading post automatically with a press of a button.
Keep in mind that moving near a neutral settlement changes its color on the mini-map, which means that your opponents may find out your location as well. Always proceed with caution if you are to convert a settlement socket this way.
