In Agents of SHIELD Season 4 episode 4, “Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire,” Quake and Ghost Rider agree to help SHIELD find the Darkhold, an evil book of sins and spells responsible for turning Dr. Lucy Bauer into a ghostly apparition. For now, Robbie and Daisy’s new home is the Zephyr. Could this mean Quake coming back to SHIELD for good is a possibility?
“I think Coulson thinks it is,” Clark Gregg told iDigitalTimes at New York Comic Con. “He understands that given the people we lost -- whether it was Roslyn Price or Lincoln Campbell -- that it was devastating. Everyone felt responsible. Coulson felt like he brought HIVE into the mix and caused all those deaths because he murdered Grant Ward. He loses a lot of sleep over it and it seems to have lead to Daisy being gone.”
However, a better question may be whether or not Daisy is ready to come back as an agent… or if Jeffrey Mace would even allow it. After Mack and Coulson's mission to find Daisy proved unsuccessful, Mace ordered a team to take her down if they encountered her. This makes it hard to believe Mace would be cool with having Quake back in SHIELD headquarters after her brutal streak of vigilantism.
“There are a lot of complex layers of her trying to figure out what she’s doing. She’s avoiding everyone she cares about because she cares about them too much that it's painful to address,” Chloe Bennet said of why Quake ditched SHIELD after Lincoln died. “But I think one of her strongest traits is her resilience and that will translate into having that exuberant energy she had the first season.”
It could have been meeting Ghost Rider that sparked this change in attitude in Daisy. “Ghost Rider unknowing holds a mirror to her. She’s kind of going, oh are we the same? Is what I'm doing for vengeance or penance?”
Let’s just hope this isn't a case of too little too late, especially with Jeffrey Mace at the head of the table. Considering Coulson doesn’t trust this new director at all, it’s unclear how Daisy rejoining SHIELD would even work. They may have to keep their partnership under wraps if Quake refuses to register. However, with Quake’s current physical limitation, she may not have a choice but to comply.
“She’s realizing she’s not physically invisible. Especially next to Ghost Rider since he literally cannot get injured,” Bennett added.
